are like diamond bracelets. they show upon some woman's arms and u admire them but they never really seem worth what you'd have to pay. others are like swatches: cute, disposable and interchangeable. a few are heirloom, simple but with finesse and elegance. you know it's genuine...and it stands the test of time. -belinda luscombe

...the philippines.
when i was still in manila, i used to complain about a lot of things. everyday, i would voice out my growing discontentment to the extent that i could no longer appreciate other good things around me. "the economy's going nowhere," "poor salary," "high taxes," "it's too hot," "the are so noisy," "the price of gas is outrageous," "heavy traffic," etc. these were just a few of my daily sentiments. now that i'm thousand miles away from home, it's funny how i miss so many things about the people and places i left behind--some of them i used to criticize...and a few of them i used to consider hopeless cases and need divine intervention.
pls feel free to browse the random list of the things i dearly miss:

"at least once in his life, a man makes a fool of himself over a woman. and vice versa."
i suddenly thought about my first love whom i was so head over heels with so many years ago. his built, his hair, his eyes, his smile, his laughter, his mannerisms---all of them were still specially etched in my memory.
it seems like yesterday when i stole his picture that was posted in our classroom bulletin board. i was only 16 then. though i was young and foolish, it was one of the stages of my life that i would love to reminisce over and over again.

i overheard a middle aged man telling another man:
"marriage is grand...but divorce is almost a hundred grand..."
i don't think divorce is really that much. of course, i knew it was just a joke. just wondering...lol

if you don't know the answer, it's best to say, "i don't know." it's very embarrassing to look and sound stupid if you try harder to talk about something you had no idea of.
you're not the one and only dumb person in the whole world, anyway!

...that when i keep my mouth shut, it pleases my husband...but not after this particular incident.
i have always been a back seat driver. it's not that i don't trust my husband's driving skills. being an experienced driver, he sometimes thinks that he's a very careful driver and that "i have been doing these for years---never had any accidents, no violations at all." though he sometimes finds my being a back seat driver some sort of a reminder "to keep him awake," it irritates him as well when i exaggerate or over act.
ok, talking about this particular incident. we were leaving the parking lot of home depot one time and i told him to slow down a little. without looking at me, he said that if i cannot keep my mouth shut, i better drive the car. he was not mad but he was serious. i felt like a murder witness who was ordered by my lawyer not to say anything. i didn't want to drive so i "behaved." then he laughed when he saw me literally holding my upper and lower lips together, protruding them like donald duck's. all of a sudden, just a minute or two after getting out of the home depot premises, we saw a police mobile car behind us. there was no loud siren, no flashing lights but we're old enough to know that it was after us. i looked at my husband without saying a word and he safely pulled over. surprisingly, i did not say anything when the policeman approached us but i was forced to introduce myself as the "wife" as he looked at me calmly sitting on the passenger seat. we were stopped for making a rolling stop on a stop sign that leads to the main road. my husband explained that it was our first time to take that north bound exit and that he didn't notice the stop sign that he thought we just have to yield. in fairness to him, what he said was all true. we always take the southbound exit all the time except that day when we had to pick up oxygen tanks. i also didn't see the stop sign. we found out a lil later that the "stop sign" was collapsed by a very strong wind a few days earlier. we were thankful that the policeman was considerate enough not to give us ticket. he just reminded us to drive safely.
on our way home, i was having fun playing my new role. i was still in my "mute mode" until my husband broke the silence. he had his biggest smile while he was telling me how he misses my "wagging" tongue and that he could not wait till it "wags" again. and he said he was not kidding. i smilingly shook my head.
men are sometimes sooo difficult to comprehend.
