our company newsletter has a portion where an employee is asked with 10 personal questions. it sounds too elementary but in a huge company like ours, this is one avenue where you'll be able to know someone even a lil bit without actually spending time with them. they have not interviewed me yet so i thought i would come up with my own here

favorite season and why:
summer. i love the warm weather. i love it when you can explore and enjoy the outdoor without wearing layers of shirts, jackets and coats.

coke or pepsi: lemonade

one material possession i can't live without:can i give two? 1. my laptop computer. 2. my car.

favorite local hero/political figure: ninoy aquino

one thing i thought i could not wear: polka dotted top/dress

one of my greatest frustrations: singing

on cosmetic/enhancement surgery: if i can afford it, why not?

cute name for a girl: it was either samantha or stephanie. it's millicent now.

one place i want to visit: paris

one thing people don't know about me:can i give two again? 1. i compose poems and i'm better at it when i'm down or broken hearted. 2. i can sleep (soundly) on my butt

good nite, folks...

i'm back to dreaming the "i'm flying" stuff again.

when i was still in the phils., i always had this dream that i was flying---literally! i was like those super heroes u see on tv but minus the capes and the fancy outfits. these dreams were like tv series that the succeeding ones were a continuation of the preceding ones. family and friends thought they might have something to do with working or living abroad. of course, we can all say it was just a literal translation. marriage and migration to the US were not in my plans then so i just shrugged it off. but at the back of my mind, there was always this nagging question: what do they really mean? when i finally got here (US) 30 months ago, i thought it was the end of those dreams because i already flew thousand miles away from home. but the "i am flying" dreams have been coming back over and over and over again.

they don't stop puzzling me and i'm tired of thinking about them. geez, maybe i should just relax, enjoy the "fly" and explore the horizon!

i heard from Al, a former suitor last nite. his e-mail was quite looong though it only talks about the yesteryear and the excitement of finding me (on friendster) for the first time in 16 years. the last part of the e-mail made me laugh though. he asked why i turned him down. how funny! it was already more than a decade and a half ago..and we are both married now!

it always feels good to hear from old friends, officemates and even old flames. i would admit his e-mail is not an exemption. it's not for anything else. it is just amazing how you become a part of the lives of other people and how life takes you in different directions and eventually reconnects you later in life.

i was 23 when Al was first introduced to me by my employer. he was 25 then, already a successful veterinarian and a proud owner of a small agri-poultry store. i knew right then he was a husband material (not to mention that he was kinda cute, laging mabango and his clothes were always neatly pressed). there was one thing though that i didn't like about him: he was very quiet. wait, maybe sobrang torpe was the more appropriate term. i could exactly count the words that he said the entire time he was courting me. if not for the few gifts, his effort of picking me up after work and the occasional kantiyaw from my employer who happens to be his friend, there was no way in hell i would know he was interested. what irritates me also is that every time he was around, he'd rather work on a crossword puzzle (which prompted my friends to call him "the puzzle guy") than talk to me. worst is, he would only talk to me to ask for clues/answers to complete the puzzle. grrrrr...sarap sakalin! when i could not stand him anymore, i told him over dinner one friday nite that he was just wasting my time and his. he sadly looked at me and whispered my name. that was the last time i saw him. that was jan., 1992.

how time flies. sigh. but if you will ask me if i have ever entertained the idea of "what would my life be if i ended up with him," my answer would be simply NO. period.

i had some ideas in mind while driving home today and i thought i will write them down here. unfortunately, suddenly, too, i became very nostalgic. so instead of the usual anything under the sun stuff, here's your grandma in her reminiscin' moment.

1. when you were in grade school, were you asked to bring (your own) chair on your annual recognition day?

...one of the times i hated the most! what we had at home during those times were long benches and my mother would always borrow a wooden chair from our neighbor. it was always the oldest and the ugliest...too "embarrassing" for the second most intelligent girl in the class.

2. remember the old noon-time tv series "yagit" which starred tom-tom (the fat boy), jocelyn (the skinny girl), the cute little boy jerby, and a baby they called "sanggol?"
that's where my cousin thelma, who was an infant at that time, got her nickname "sanggol" which stuck till now that she's already in her mid 20's.

*sanggol- tagalog word for baby or infant

3. my father gave me a piggy bank (made of bamboo) on my 7th birthday.... he thought it was the best way to teach me how to save money at such an early age. bad for him...all the monies i saved came from his own pocket!

4. i had this classmate in grade school who looks like former phil basketball player "atoy co." the hair, the eyes, the shape of the face...very atoy co... only she's a girl. my other classmates would always make fun of her. but...holy cow! kahawig na kahawig siya ni alice dixson now... no kidding!

5. i was picking "atis" one time when i chanced upon my neighbors (all boys and were all just circumcised) at the back of a shattered nipa hut in our neighborhood. i had no idea (that time) what they were doing though it seemed like they were comparing "something" ; and they were all wearing skirts! when one of them saw me, they all freaked out and screamed in chorus," may naninilip!!!" running away, tawa ako ng tawa...

naninilip - peeping tom...lol

6. i had my first kung fu shoes when i was 11. i liked it so much that it was already too worn out when i stopped wearing it just after a few months.

7. i grew up listening to old foreign and fil songs and singers...thanks to my brother! do the songs "dumating ka na pala" by marissa or patsy cline's "crazy" sound familiar to you? you name it, i know it...

8. i have always wanted to be a "sagala" simply because i wanted to wear those bright color sexy gowns. when someone finally had me as part of her "santacruzan entourage" when i was 13, i thought i could wear my cousin's bare back pink gown. alas, there was my mother with a bright yellow gown for me...with ruffles all over. i felt like i was BIG BIRD the entire santacruzan.

sagala-fiesta queen

wait, i promised myself not to make this too long. look at what i've just written...hope it does not bore you to death. well, i only have one eye open now. got to go to bed. see yah later...

my 11 year old nephew jj graduated from elementary last week. oh boy, it's already been 7 days and he is still very excited. who would not be? he got a couple of thousand pesos as gifts from relatives, an MP3 player from one of my sisters and a game boy from one of his "ninangs."

when i talked to him last night over the phone, i told him how lucky they are now. i shared with him that when i was his age, two of the gifts I got for my graduation that I cherished the most are a piece of yellow headband (that complements my then golden hair) and a set of jack stone. how i enjoyed those stuff! when he made a comment that it was already 25 years ago, we both giggled.

before he hang up, he said the MP3 player and the game boy have been his constant companions while he recuperates....from circumcision

the 11th commandment: steal food and you

my previous post reminds me of a funny experience with my former two male co-workers (officemates in phil lingo) in manila who always eat our food/snacks/leftover at work. but unlike the "thief at work," these guys were self confessed left-over eaters.

aside from me, there were 9 other employees in the head office where i was stationed. the office set up was relax & informal, everybody was kinda laid back and warm that we developed a closer relationship with each other. we were like a big, happy family. we shared food, problems, laughters and even money.

these two guys i am talking about were our company driver & the delivery helper who would usually come in after lunch from delivering products to customers. what's interesting though was that everytime they arrive, these partners in crime would go straight to the pantry, open the refrigerator and eat whatever food they see as if they were in their own home. we would sometimes hear them burp while saying "the food we just ate was yummy or the "sisig" was cooked perfectly!" that was their way of saying " we just ate your food, ladies." i told you, we were like a big, happy family that it was no big deal... but not until the lunch of one of our lady employee (who decided to have her lunch late in the afternoon) was eaten by these 2 guys. a little bit pissed because she ended up eating just a piece of siopao at a nearby 7-11, this lady thought she would give these guys a "lesson they will never forget" just for fun. know what she did the next day? she brought in a plastic food container with a big amount of "unscented ever bilena facial cream with uncooked sago" (that it looked like a very tempting desert) and put it in the refrigerator where it can easily be seen. to make the story short, the 2 guys arrived, went straight to the pantry, opened and searched the refrigerator and took the desert container out while all of us followed them silently, curiously. these two free food eaters alternately had a teaspoonful of the "desert," chewed the hard sago and that was when they both screamed "pweh!!! this is disgusting!!!" both of them rushed to the sink and gargled.

we came out from hiding and we all ended up laughing.

fyi, the facial cream was actually tasteless & not poisonous.

caution: thief at work!

two ladies at work complained last friday that they lost their packed lunches in the refrigerator in the lunch room. i just shrugged my shoulder when i heard about it. i've already heard news of this kind in the past so it didn't shock me anymore. actually, just prior to what happened last friday, one gal lost a box of frozen burritos and another one "whined" over her missing small plastic bag of fresh cauli flowers and baby carrots. everytime things like this happen, we just always say in chorus, "that of a b*t*h" strikes again!!!

in an acctg. dept of 150 staff of various age and nationalities, where each has the privacy of his own cubicle, it's really hard to know who is this person who enjoys eating food for free. the management had already issued its __nth memo but i don't think the "thief at large" will ever take it seriously.

what about a reclusion perpetua if he get caught?

this man showed up unannounced at my workplace this afternoon. i only learned that he was in my cubicle, right behind my chair when i saw the reflection of his smiley face at my computer monitor. even before i faced him, he said "hi gorgeous," kissed my hair, shook his butt and smilingly walked back towards the reception area.

the man i am talking about is my husband. he always loves to surprise me. though he has always been that way since we met, a simple thing like this just makes me tickle.

i remembered one time when we went to an appliances store and he found me looking at a one burner gas stove. though it's kinda pricey, i told him it's perfect for "my date with the fishes" at our back porch. he smiled, nodded his head but did not say a thing. when we went to bed that night, i was surprised when my pillow was taller and harder than usual... and under it is the one burner gas stove in it's original box with a pretty gold ribbon. where was i when he bought it? how was he able to bring it home without me seeing it?

i love surprises. he loves to suprise me. we really fit to a T.

to ME!

i turned 38 today... and i cannot thank God enough for this wonderful gift of life.

almost all the people i know often tell me that i don't look my age. though i don't want to sound conceited, i sometimes think that there's a truth to it he he he. i don't want to take the full credit though 'coz i know that i share this trait with most women of my race, right?. well, aside from a few strands of short grey hair (that you would not think they exist unless you "scrutinize my head"), there are no other things, so far, that suggest my real age. no wrinkles (thank GOD!), no fine lines, no need for anti-aging cream yet!!! (but of course, i'm fully aware that i'm getting older biologically).

is it good genes? honestly, i'm not so sure about that. all i know is that i live a clean, healthy life. i take life lightly and positively. i am always so thankful and grateful for what i have and not fret about the things that i do not have.

i am a carefree person.... and i love being one.
