Home Is Where My Heart Is

There will never be another place like home...

a few thoughts to ponder...

NEVER CHANGE a person. CHANGE YOURSELF to be able to accept his flaws and shortcomings.

If you don't get out of the box you've raised in, you will never know how much bigger the world is.

The poorest man on earth is not he who has no cents in his pocket but he who does not know how to dream.

A GOOD FRIEND always checks his schedule; a TRUE FRIEND is always available for you.

You may have enough FAITH needed to move mountains but if you have no LOVE you are nothing.

Pretty (?) woman....driving down the street....

After almost four months (though not everyday) of practicing driving, my patience has been finally paid off. Washington State has a new licensed driver now.

In a place like ours where there is no public transportation, you have to learn how to drive...to survive. Otherwise, you will find yourself totally depending on the availability of other people to drive you to work or to your job interview, to the mall, to the supermarket or to the house of a new found friend. It was like you're in a box! You know you have wings but you can't fly.

Now that I have my driver's license, I feel like I am a totally independent person that I used to be, ready to conquer the world! And relative to having my driver's license, I am now one of this country's organ donors. But, then, that's another story.

Who says two heads are better than one?

Yours truly and my spell checker did a lil poor job last time. We both missed two of my misspelled words in my previous post "Let's Reminisce". "Flucked" should be "plucked" and "elemantary" should be "elementary."

Well, a mistake done is not bad at all if one learns from it. No regrets, just lessons.

Let's reminisce...

I could not help but smile and sigh a little as I stare at the photo of a little girl in red that is prettily framed on the table at our home-office. Matching the red dress that extends 3 inches above her knee is a big red hair band and white panty stockings.

It's me in the picture. I was 7. It was our Recognition day and I did a dance number then with 3 other little girls my age. It was 1977 and I was in grade 1. And that was 29 years ago. How time flies! It was just like yesterday!

Looking back at the photo, I could not help but reminisce my good old days. Gone were the days! And all I have now are the memories of yesteryears. They are written below...some are good...some are not so good...but they are the things that shaped my life and made it more interesting. I hope you, guys, have a nice time reading it. And maybe, yes, maybe it would make you feel like going back to your "own good old days" and share your own experiences/memories here as I welcome you to take a look at myself when I was little.

1. I had my first crush when I was 8; first love at 16; first boyfriend at 23. (is it too late???)
And the latest? I married at 35.

2. The first movie I saw was "E.T." and it was part of our educational trip when I was in first year high school.

***The movie "Ghost" (starring the then very young Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze as Molly and Sam respectively) was the first movie I saw as a young adult. ( I asked my brother for extra money for a "project", 'yun yung pinambili ko ng ticket hehehe)

3. 50cents lang ang allowance ko when I was in grade 1. Di pa uso ang service vehicle that time so almost 6 miles back and forth ang nilalakad ko everyday. And since whole day ang klase, may baon akong lunch na nakabalot sa dahon ng saging.

4. Marilyn Lozada was my seatmate in grade 2. She was very quiet and shy pero lumaki siyang tomboy!!!(that's true, folks!).

5. When I was 9, crush na crush ko si Eddie Rodriguez (yes, the late actor, SLN...). Hate na hate ko naman si George Estregan (also an actor who's not around anymore...SLN, too). Kakatakot yung mata niya pag nanlilisik!!!

6. Nakagat ako ng aso when I was 10. Since then, nagka-phobia na ako sa aso. It was just a "mild bite" but my mother was very worried about it. Know what she did? Tinapalan lang niya ng dinikdik na bawang.

7. Here's another one. Nakagat na naman ako, but this time, hindi ng aso kundi ng maliit na snake sa likod bahay namin. My family brought me to San Lazaro hospital. Thank God coz it was nothing serious.

8. When I was 11, di na ako nakatiis, sinulatan ko yung first crush ko. I included a copy of the song "The One That You Love" by Air Supply. I thought he would be flattered to receive a letter from me. I was a consistent honor student then kaya naman I was a lil proud and confident. I waited tapos di naman sinagot ng crush ko yung letter. Waaaahhhh!!!!

9. My most embarrassing moment happened when I was in 1st year high school. I collapsed one morning while we're having the flag ceremony. My classmates told me later na kitang kita ng buong school 'yung white undies ko. (Shockz!!! Buti na lang comatose...opppsss unconscious pala ako that time hehehe)

10. I got more awards than the rest of the class when I finished my elemantary (I was the graduating class salutatorian. And b4 the graduation ceremony was over, I found out that I only had one pony tail all the while and I lost the other one. Since I could not do anything, I just shrugged it off).

11. When my father died in 1985, he left behind a wife, 3 sons and 4 daughters (the eldest just graduated and the other 6 (urs truly's one of them) were still in school), a modest home, an old tricycle, and a "whooping" P86.00! (ganon kami ka-poor!!!)

12. Years ago, my eldest brother asked me to pluck his gray hair for P1.00 each. Knowing that he only had two or 3 strands of gray hair all over his head, I thought of something that will make me earn much. Know what I did? I secretly flucked a few strands of Mom's gray hair, cut them into shorter lengths (my mom's hair very long) and slowly flucked my brother's hair pretending that the gray hair were from his. Whew, that made me P55 richer!!! hehehe.(I realized later how bad I was. He was the one who sent me to school 'till I got my college diploma. Thanks, bro!).

13. My friend and I were riding her bike and she was the one pedalling. Suddenly, my first crush and his cousin appeared from nowhere. I had mumps that time and embarrased that he would see my "worst look", I nervously turned the bike to the right. I was deafened by my own scream when we fell into the swamp that was 4 feet deep. My friend and I both lost our slippers.

14. Bing Rodrigo (do u know him???)was one of my brother's favorite singers. Pag pinapatugtog niya yung mga songs niya (plaka pa that time, di pa uso ang CD), hiyang hiya ako sa mga kapitbahay. Bad ako, noh.? Di ko kasi type mga songs niya.

15. My first crush sent me a valentine card in 1981. And until now, I am still keeping it.(Yes, I'm a keeper!!) The card says: Love is not boastful, nor proud, nor rude....tapos may "I LOVE YOU" which he wrote using a green ink. (Sayang nga, wala na akong crush sa kanya when he sent it).

16. White ang school bag ko when I was in grade 4...pinaglumaan ng older sister ko. But having a second hand bag did not lessen my excitement. The bag was very cute with the Sesame Street characters on both sides. (So, sinong may sabing now na lang nauso si Big Bird, Ernie, Oscar, etc.)

17. I was 9 yrs. old when I joined our barangay singing competition. Of the 7 contestants, I emerged the second winner (BRAVO!!!). The winning piece? "Mahal kita, Mahal Mo Siya, Mahal Niya Ay Iba" by Sharon Cuneta. The prize? P10.00 (medyo malaki na 'yon that time, yehey!!!) The judges? Well, they were 3 and one of them was my grandmother hehehe.

18. I had my hair curled by my auntie for my grade 5 recognition day. The curlers should be removed after 30 mins. But my auntie had her "temporary amnesia" and only thought about removing the curlers an hour later. It was such a disaster!!! I was crying when I was receiving my award coz I really looked like Elizabeth Ramsey!!!

19. I always buy "Baby Ruth Chocolate" and eat them everytime my first love's around when I was 16. It was his favorite chocolate and I thought he would comment or say something pag nakita niya akong kumakain 'non. Wa epek! Manhid talaga!!! hehehe

20. The whole family was shocked when they heard my loudest cry one midnight in 1997. The chicken pox left a deep scar on my right cheek and it made me felt so bad.

***till next***

It feels nice to be back again and be with the friends I'd met while I was still regularly visiting this site. Actually, I did not totally leave. I just took some time off to fully devote my time to my "life." It was during the past 16 months of my life that I made life's biggest decisions. In my mid 30's, I married the most wonderful man I've ever met. I left my long time job and moved out of my mother's home that has been my heaven for almost 36 years. And not so long ago, I left my family, relatives and friends whom I love so dearly to move to a place that is thousand miles away from home...for good. Leaving and moving have been very tough for me. But as the days passed, little by little, I was able to adjust to my new environment. And, yes, I am now in my new home, my new heaven! But this does not and would not stop me to miss the heat and noise of Manila and rekindle old friendships and make new friends, as well, here at FFF.
