The Road Not Taken

PLEASE COMMENT

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two Roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had really worn them about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost, 1963

I would appreciate hearing from you, the reader how this poem touched you, or meant something to you in the past. Is this a favorite of yours as well?

Greetings Everyone,

I discovered and memorized this poem when I was 19. I was inspired by the boldness and adventure of striking out on my own path. I made this poem a theme in my life. And Yes, I have taken my own path. I am a classic non conformist. This has been an appropriate theme through my life.

Yet, as I have aged and hopefully matured; Lines of this poem have come to have deeper meaning and a greater appreciation for myself.
I have come to understand that there is significance to not being able to "see around the bend in the undergrowth." There may also be reason and meaning that a road may "lay in leaves no step has trodden black." It's true, seldom do we "ever come back."

Yet, now, I still have choices. Unkowns still await! I am yet no more wiser to my final destination. I trust that my Lord has me in His hand and His Will since he knows what my choices will be.

Dave

Greetings everyone!
I think this is a poem about the choices we make in life.
I think the important point though is to be looking forward.
It pains me, when I hear people speak with regret and spend
their time and energy looking behind them. This, instead,
of applying the lessons from the past to what choices lie in
the future. What choices and opportunities are around the
next bend in the road.
God Bless! Dave

I like this poem very much...It tells that good things in life are not free, it requires hard labor, perseverance, patience and faith to oneself and to God.

Somehow, the choice is always ours to make...

this is my favorite piece to illustrate further the importance of decision making among my teenage clients.
