ANYTHING BUT FOOD

Having bestfriends is one of the greatest gifts I ever have. My best friends are my support system in every endeavor that I go through. With them around, things are always easier for me. However, these two women whom I call bestfriends will sometimes drag me into disastrous event of my life.

It all started with my passion to cook and share whatever I prepared to the people in our office. Most of the time I am experimenting with fish, vege and fruit because I am trying to avoid red meat.Until the joke of catering a party to one of our came in. It was my two friends who kidded the man about it( I did not have any idea at all).Yesterday, they summoned me for a very early meeting about the deal that they closed. I was still in my PJ when they bounced on my bed showing to me the list of foods to be prepared. I was so ignorant while they were outlining to me the plans and the set up.In the end, I was directed to take charged of the kitchen and the food to cook. One will handle the serving and decoration while the other will go for the program. They instantly got the man power by utilizingour staffs. I was swearing that I cant handle it but there was no time to cancel. They had already committed and it was great shame if they will cancel on the last hours ( goshhhh!!!!).

I took a swift look at the list. I was seeing my pitiful state in the midst of woks, pots, knives, ingredients and spices while trying to dry up the sweats that come rushing down my cheeks. I was imagining the horrible state of chopping, slicing, peeling, dicing, blanching, boiling etc...of everything in the kitchen. My jaw dropped when I saw the "rellenong bangus" in the list...and so it did happen........

Went to the market too early, prepared all the ingredients and cooked them into something that will satisfy the starvation. Laddle was my baton which was completed with my ajinomoto apron...I got 2 assistants but most of the tasks fell on me. The pressure turned greater with the constant checked ups of my two friends if how were things going on and trying to ask for my suggestions about the things that they were doing. Things were done before the afternoon ended. I was very tired. My ring finger got sliced while I was trying to peel a potato. All I want was to lie down and sleep.

My friends were very beautiful while I looked harassed and molested. They were laughing and teasing me.It was our long time plan to venture in food business but I am very hesitant because it requires too much work. I can cook but I am not an expert and I do not know what happened to this first catering stint that we ever tried.

Hope things will turn better. We invested too much effort in making it great.

I will know more tomorrow.. Time to lie down my back and carve a smile to what happened.

jenz.. this might be a start of a flourishing catering business & you don't have to prepare all the food yourself.. make it more streamlined the next time: put someone to do the washing, peeling & slicing then another one to do the preliminary cooking (like boiling, pre-cooking to a certain degree) then comes CHEF Jenz to finish up, o dibah madali lang! goodluck in your endeavors!TC

My dear, been there done that. I had a luncheonette in Cagayan de Oro for over 3 years, and I did most of the market-ing, preparing, cooking, and even serving for a while, until I established loyal customers. It was fun, and nakakapagpataba talaga ng puso ang good remarks by customers. I had to close the small business when it was time to go abroad. And I tell you, food business is where the money is, specially if you manage it very well...By the end of the day, you are already counting your earnings...
