Magic Sing & My Fear

LUCK was on my side last night at this Christmas Party I attended with my newspaper staff. There was a huge raffle of prizes ranging from USB with leather cases, special mountain bikes with tags that say "Bike for Clean Air," mobile phones, magic sing, and all other good techy stuff.

I won a Magic Sing, and I don't know what the he** am I going to do with it now. I'm not so good at singing. And I don't know anything about Magic Sing. No matter how expensive I was told it is, and that it's the "in-thing" when it comes to the subject of "sing-a-long," my IQ and my EQ were just not that interested.

To win it, I had to pick a song and sing it in front of more than 150 other print and broadcast journalists from a list of more than 5,000 melodies. So many songs yet so little talent from me! I only know how to listen and appreciate music.

I was challenged to pick one or I wouldn't be able to go home with the Magic Sing. I was meaning to choose Jingle Bells as I thought it's an appropriate time to sing it, but K. A. and M. T. wouldn't let me do that one. They said it's the easiest, and they wouldn't let me get away with a song that's effortless. I chose Blue Bayou instead. It's my national anthem, and I don't even know why.

I'm big on challenges. I like to take them on. But there are several that I find myself shying away from, like singing and dancing (and many more that go against my principle). However, that night, I don't know what pushed me to sing. Maybe CHALLENGE itself shoved me to have that courage I didn't think I have in SINGING.

Everyday, we're faced with them -- trivial or crucial. It's really up to us if we're going to eat our humble pie or stand our ground. Yet nothing can take away the feeling of pleasure that comes when you've achieved the requisites that the DARE demanded. Winning the Magic Sing was secondary. What's primary was overcoming my fear that I can't sing in front of a crowd. I've never done it before. Only last night.

Congratulations Teng hehe. I know what you mean overcoming that fear, especially it's not a pre-arranged thing, no time to bluff your way through it. 2 years ago i was best man at my friends wedding, had to do the big speech, definitely out of my comfort zone. It's funny, i could play a piano recital by memory for at least an hour, yet a 5 minute speech is like a lifetime haha.

Tim, if it was only a speech, I'd do it immediately. But singing? I asked them if I could call a friend, but they wouldn't allow me... heheheh. You are so correct. It felt like a lifetime

HAhaha! Darling, that's okay, at least you can carry a note. Just an advice, in case Ran decides to pay you a visit and you guys are doing the Karaoke thingy, please, I beg of you, for the life of the people around you (LOL!), don't ever let him sing! Hahahaha! Your TV will explode and your mic will go haywire. Ran looks good on the ramp but that's all where he is good at. hehehe! I love the guy but, he_l, ask babygirl why she threw a punch. haha!

There was no score, sister Pero nabunot ang name ko. When that happened, kailangan masagot ko ang either question or kakanta ako. Eh, ayaw naman nila ako tanungin, kaya kanta na lang daw. Di kumanta ako ng kantang memorize ko na ata since bata pa ako para maiuwi lang ang magic sing na yan.

Hehehe. I'm glad I got through with it and went home with the Magic Sing that I haven't tried. I will later when I get home, and sing my heart out

Hi, sis Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou" is the only song I can sing from top to bottom (memorize ko). I think I like the last lines...

Oh that boy of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Well I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou

Thanks for the info Now, I know the place is real. LOL

It's amazing how your confidence will increase in your singing ability having that tool Teng. It's a fun thing, and believe me, talent or no talent, it's great fun, and a great outlet too, my sis has a similar one, we were buzzing after playing on that for several hours : ))

JD, you're lucky you're in SF or else you are gonna die, dude. I read that. Pray that Ran doesn't visit my babe's blogs or you will die a horrible death. Wahahaha!

Am having fun with it already I hope it raises my confidence. My sister's so crazy about it. She's the singer in the family.

extreme! extreme! magic sing!!!

Magpie! OMG, I just know you're gonna love that prize. Singing is kinda addictive. I was never one to sing karaoke/videoke, but when I was forced to during our high school reunion 3 years ago, I have to say I got the hang of it, and now whenever my friends and I get together, we always set aside some time for a karaoke/videoke session. It's really fun!

Sis, thanks for the vote of confidence I've never faced a crowd with a microphone to sing before. Indeed, there's always a first time for everything. Merry Christmas!
