Danger Looking For Caution

HAVE you ever had someone come up to you, told you his name, his line of work, asked you for your name, your mobile number, and told you your eyes are "beautiful?"

No one has ever done that to me until a few nights ago in front of my friend E's stitch and frame shop along Valencia Street, one of the busiest roads in Puerto Princesa. The time was about 8:00 P.M. We just had our short meeting for a fund raising project, and I was dying to really get a feel of fresh air. Being cooped up in the office for a long time made me in dire need of just that. I invited my other friend M (the one who called me about GILAS) to join me outside since she also wanted to discuss the internet literacy project more with me -- I thought it was the perfect time.

While she and I were in the middle of our conversation, a man wearing a black sleeveless shirt and tight fitting jeans came up all of a sudden, looked into my eyes, got my right hand, and shook it without any word or act of warning. "Hi, my name is JOHN DELFIN," the man said after. Surprise is not the right term to describe it. I was dumbfounded. Or something like that.

"I notice you've been frequenting this place. Do you own this shop?" he asked further. "You've got beautiful eyes. Can I get your number?"

"What?!!!" I was knocked for six! M too was staggered by the sheer impudence of the man who looked like the short version of Arnie Schwar-chamacallit.

It was completely insane. Totally ridiculous no matter how much I tried to see sense in it, or even amusement. I don't see myself as someone who a male species would approach like that. I, mean...nope, I'm not selling myself short. But I do find it nuts. And these days, one has to trust her instinct a lot. IMPRESSION is telling me different, but INSTINCT that night was shouting loud and clear.

I didn't give him my mobile number, and I think it's only right not to do that because I really don't know where he came from. Sure, he's good-looking... those muscles, oh, boy! Phew!

That's IMPRESSION talking... but ooooppppsss DANGER is looking for CAUTION... and my name is TENG

Everyday, life opens us up to many dumbfounded realities. To events we do not expect to happen, but are still a large part of our existence. And always, it is up to us how we deal with them. It is up to us what to do with them. I can choose to get mad at the man for his boldness and his nerve, but I didn't because whatever his reasons (criminal or otherwise, hahaha!) are for doing that at that time, I respect it. Benefit of the doubt, so to say. I won't assume. Perhaps he saw it important for himself, and I don't need him to tell my why.

To me, it's avoid, avoid, avoid. The DANGER SIGN was big enough that night to swallow me. Besides, it was too good to be true for me to think about even up to this minute.

Yesterday, I was at E's place again. He saw me in red, and I saw him in black. No color match there. Red and black? Someone at the hair salon next door to E's told me he's been asking around about me. Oh, no!

knowing what's going on from a man's side, i have often wondered how women ever manage to suffer us hehehe... i think yr eyes are fine to teng hehe

the true proof that love is bling can be gained by simply looking at the men women end up with...

haaaaaaaa just kicked off my shoes after a trip to the big smoke for the daye.

"Love is blind" is such a cliche. But I don't understand why a lot of people still fall for it? Yes, communication is really a strange thing sometimes

yeeeeeees you do! we are all tested for integrity and personal empowerment. we are brought into constant and repeating contact with all failures and pain we generate or feel.

there are no reprieves or excuses and yr pretty eyes won't save you. love is the very best arena to keep chucking us back into till we understand that loving and living are synonimous...

and we will keep falling for those same old baits again until we learn it all with true integrity and compassion...
