life in the US (3)...

right after lunch yesterday, with a check in my hand, off i went to the company president's room down the hallway (exactly 6 doors away from ours) to have the check signed on. along the way, i met a co-worker who told me that the company president was in the photocopying room down stair.

i went directly to the photocopying room and of course, i was not surprised to see the president there. what i did not expect though was seeing him fixing the photocopying machine (a very minor paper jammed trouble and obviously, it was him who caused it) while two of my lady co-workers were waiting in line.

innocently (and in good faith), i offered help. and suddenly, i stepped closer to the machine and started "analyzing and solving the problem." (hey, i was used to doing that in manila---helping not just the president but everybody/anybody at work). to my surprise, one of my lady co-workers around pulled me out of there and whispered, "let him do it! he can fix it!"

i have been working for 15 years (14.5 of it was in the Phils.) and honestly, i am not used to seeing a company owner/president in his white long sleeve and expensive tie doing something technical at the office, let alone fixing a photocopying machine and have his hands filled with toner. my experience yesterday was the first and giving a hand was not to impress anyone. it's the filipino culture in me...i just wanted to help.

*** in the philippines, company president/owners are VERY, VERY, VERY SPOILED! they don't photocopy or fax document out. they don't make their own coffee. they don't make phone calls. employees do all these things for them!

i think it is all our (employees) fault that we let them use and abuse us to the max...for a very poor salary! but i guess it's not yet too late to tell them to start learning all these stuff. they are the ones who make good money, anyway!

what if they refuse? they should consider bringing their own housemaid at work.

AJ!..I lived in one of the biggest and famous cities of the world, the Big Apple for 11 and a half years, and the world thinks that it is one of the dirtiest with the rudest people one can find...I'll prove them wrong...People there are down to earth and straightforward, they tell you what they feel but they do not hold grudge...A poor man can eat all what a rich man can eat...You don't have to be educated in college to be successful...No one cares if you are the President of the USA or a sanitation collector...You'll hear what people have to say to you, nevertheless...And top guns do touch "dirt"....NO white collar jobs are more valuable than the blue collared ones...You earn what you worked for.../Elsa

i used to hear these things from US based pinoys and now i'm one of the living witnesses! how i wish we can adopt that attitude that can make us (filipinos) realize that there's greatness in humble work as long as we do it with honesty. too bad that some of us are still slaves of our own pride that hinders us from moving forward!

Virgo, Your help was an act of kindness. It was of help and assistance. It was part of being part of the team. Those two ladies did not choose to support the team or a leader. Instead of being part of the solution, they showed themselves to be part of the problem. On a team, assistence goes up and down the line of command. Im sure your help was appreciated. The other two added to the boss' embarrassment and contributed to the wasting of his and their time. Atta girl. This is the proper way to get ahead and make a positive impression. The other two did not add to their cause at all. You don't think a boss won't remember what took place in the copy room? Count on it. Not only that - You showed Christ's face in that room. God Bless! Dave in Tualatin, Or.

Thank You For Your Time and Consideration ! Be Safe !! and, God Bless You and Yours !!! DAVE

Hebrews 10;24-25: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works; Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one anothe: and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching.

The whole family is here, virgo. They visited me often in the states but never wanted to stay there for long so I never petitioned them I wish I did anyway, with what's going on here - all that graft and corruption
