Does 'Mayang' mean anything?
Asking because you know I'm makulit.

Reminds me of the....puto maya.

tukayo.

Sad to see that people are so harsh about the way others look.
It shouldn't be this way, but unfortunately it happens.
Name calling can really wear anyone's self-esteem down.
Hope you have regained confidence in yourself.

It's quite clear to see many Pinoys treat a person who has a fairer complexion more warmly and favourably over a person who has a darker complexion. As you know many Filipino celebrities are mestizos.

Darker skinned Filipinos were looked upon where I used to live and referred to as Igorots and Negritos.

I'm glad you didn't get stuck with this nickname.

Panggo=Medlak....very interesting. Thanks for sharing Ms. Res.
Don't worry we'll embrace the word 'medlak' together. We're the same

I was nearly going to get christened twice because they wrongly assumed my nanay didn't do it. Anyhow I've been given another name and it has stuck with me for many years along with several other nicknames.

Yeh mom and I would joke and call each other "oy bruha".
Really interesting variation of negra- te negs.

Funny, I heard my closest friends call each other this for the first times this week. I was surprise because my best friend's husband normally just calls her 'mommy'.

It's the partly the same reason why I've been given nicknames because they can't pronounce my original name properly.

My examples are a few of my nicknames. Some used by those I know close like the bf. As he was about to leave the job he was doing during a very stressful week at an elementary school, a bunch of boys began to taunt him, calling him "Curly Custard". The amusing thing was that a young girl shouted out to him as well and said "Don't pay attention to the bad boys".

Sorry Malu for the late reply.

You a baluga o ita? No way. You have a fair skin.

Telou?? What does this mean?
I'm not familiar with it. Is this a slang Ate Malu?

I'll let you in on one of the nicknames that only people who know me long enough calls me by this name since I was a toddler. Lala M*ntilibano. Nothing to do with how I look.
